Sisters.

I was laying on my couch on a Saturday, reading Brianna Wiest’s 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think, and something stopped me mid-page.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is slow all the way down. Not scroll. Not plan. Not optimize. Just sit with the week you just had and actually let it land.

That’s what this episode is. A Saturday pause. Permission to decompress before we keep moving.

What I’ve Been Sitting With

This week was heavy. People around me received hard news. The kind that ripples outward and touches everyone nearby, and you find yourself trying to make sense of something that simply doesn’t make sense.

Sometimes life just is what it is. It happens to us whether we’re ready or not. And in those moments the most honest thing we can do is stop trying to make it make sense and just let ourselves feel the weight of it.

I’ve been having vivid dreams lately too. Really realistic ones. And I think part of my mind knows we’re in a rare moment of calm right now — that quiet space between one wave of chaos and the next. And when you finally slow down, everything you’ve been carrying catches up with you.

That’s not a bad thing. That’s just what happens when you stop running.

The Real Definition of Procrastination

Here’s where the essay came in and completely reframed something I thought I already understood.

We think procrastination is about putting off tasks. Avoiding the to-do list. Scrolling instead of working.

But Wiest pushes deeper than that. Procrastination isn’t just avoiding work — it’s avoiding decisions. It’s the moment where you already know what needs to happen and you choose not to act on it because you’re not ready to deal with what comes next.

We think we’re creating space for the truth to shift. But really we’re just creating discomfort so we can feel it more completely — and suffering needlessly in the process.

That hit me differently than I expected.

What “I Need Space” Is Really Saying

Think about how often you’ve said it. Or heard it. In a relationship, a friendship, a hard conversation.

I just need space. I can’t talk about this right now.

Here’s what I think is actually happening most of the time: you already know what you want to do. You already know how you feel. What you’re not ready for is the fallout. The repercussions. The reality of acting on what you know to be true.

Space isn’t always clarity. Sometimes it’s just a delay on a decision you’ve already made in your gut.

That doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you human. But it’s worth being honest with yourself about which one it actually is.

Because the longer we delay, the more discomfort we create. And the decision doesn’t go anywhere. It just waits.

The Saturday Reminder

You don’t have to have everything figured out today. But you do have to be honest with yourself about what you’re actually avoiding.

Is it the task? Or is it the weight of having to choose?

That’s the question worth sitting with this weekend.

Take the pause. Decompress. Let the week settle. And then when you’re ready — make the decision you already know you need to make.

Drop a 💜 if you needed this reminder today. And save this one for the next time you catch yourself asking for space you don’t actually need.
